Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 3, as revealed during a Nintendo Direct livestream.
The title is the second installment in the Final Fantasy 7 remake project, following Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, which was made available on Switch on January 22. Notably, the six-month wait between the release of the first and second chapters on Switch differs significantly from the four-year interval experienced by PlayStation users between the first and second parts.
Rebirth is a remake of the middle section of the original 1997 PlayStation 1 game, Final Fantasy 7. The game boasts updated graphics and has transitioned from turn-based combat to a real-time action system. The version coming to the Switch 2 is a complete port of the PlayStation 5 edition, with a trailer released alongside the announcement showcasing the game’s visual quality.
In addition to the Switch 2 release, the same port is also set to arrive on Xbox Series X/S on June 3. With these releases, both installments of the remake will be available on major consoles, including PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch 2.
The Final Fantasy 7 remake project is expected to span three parts. According to rumors, the third installment is anticipated to be released around 2027.
The Nintendo Direct livestream also made other significant announcements, including the release dates for several Bethesda games on the Switch 2. These include Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, scheduled for release on February 24, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, set to follow on May 12, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which is expected later in the year.
