Rename AirPods on iPhone, Android, or Mac Easily

If you’re using second-hand AirPods or AirPods Pro or simply want a more personalized identifier, renaming them is a straightforward process that can be done through various devices, including iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Android devices.

Before diving into the renaming process, ensure your AirPods are connected to your device and that Bluetooth is enabled. This initial step is crucial for a seamless renaming experience across all devices.

For iPhone or iPad users, the process involves a few simple steps: connecting your AirPods, opening the Settings app, locating your AirPods (or accessing them through the Bluetooth menu if they’re not immediately visible), tapping the More Info (i) button, tapping the current name, entering a new name, and then tapping Done or the back arrow to save the changes.

Mac users can rename their AirPods by first connecting them and ensuring Bluetooth is turned on. They then need to access System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions) through the Apple menu, click on Bluetooth in the left panel, click the ‘i’ icon next to their AirPods, click on the current name or the Rename option, enter a new name, and click Done.

Android users can also rename their AirPods by first connecting them and enabling Bluetooth. The steps include opening the Settings app, tapping on Bluetooth (or Connections on some devices), tapping the cog icon next to their AirPods, tapping Rename (which may appear as a pencil icon on some devices), entering a new name, and tapping Save.

While renaming AirPods is typically a smooth process, some users may encounter issues. To troubleshoot, users can try charging their AirPods for at least an hour before attempting to rename them again. Resetting the AirPods by opening the case and pressing and holding the setup button until the light flashes amber and then white can also resolve connectivity issues. After resetting, reconnecting the AirPods to the device by opening the case nearby should prompt a pairing request.

Renaming AirPods to something descriptive, like “My Daily AirPods,” can significantly enhance the user experience, especially for those with multiple pairs or who share devices with others. This simple customization reduces confusion during pairing and improves overall organization.

A personalized name for AirPods not only makes them easier to identify in a crowded Bluetooth device list but also syncs across Apple devices via the Apple ID, ensuring consistency. This small adjustment can make a significant difference in busy routines, saving time and enhancing the overall user experience.
