Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture between Sony and Honda, has announced that its upcoming Afeela electric vehicle will feature PS Remote Play functionality, allowing for PlayStation gaming on the go and at rest.

The innovative feature enables drivers to engage in PlayStation games while the vehicle is parked, and passengers can continue their gaming sessions during road trips. This is made possible by the Afeela’s advanced infotainment system, which streams PS5 and PS4 titles directly to its integrated display, providing a seamless gaming experience. To resume gaming sessions, users simply need to bring their DualSense controller from home.

For optimal performance, Sony Honda Mobility specifies that a minimum broadband connection of 5 Mbps is required for Remote Play, though it recommends a connection speed of 15 Mbps for a smoother experience. This technical requirement underscores the venture’s focus on ensuring a high-quality gaming experience within the vehicle.

This announcement is not the first demonstration of the Afeela’s Remote Play capability by Sony Honda Mobility. The joint venture previously showcased this feature on the Afeela 1 prototype at CES 2024, highlighting its commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into its electric vehicles. The Afeela 1 is slated for its first customer deliveries in 2026, marking an exciting milestone for the venture.

The inclusion of PS Remote Play in the Afeela EV positions Sony Honda Mobility alongside other automotive and technology companies exploring the intersection of gaming and transportation. Notably, Tesla had previously offered Steam gaming support on its Model S and Model X vehicles but later discontinued this feature, leaving room for other manufacturers to innovate in this space.
