Samsung’s Galaxy Ring 2 might charge from your phone

Samsung’s Galaxy Ring 2 might charge from your phone

No charger, no problem? Samsung’s Galaxy Ring 2 may ditch the dedicated charging dock in favor of juicing up directly from a Samsung phone, according to a recently filed patent.

The patent, spotted on WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization), reveals a design where the ring docks onto the back of a compatible Samsung phone. This eliminates the need for a separate charging device.

The inner part of the ring appears to have a connector that interfaces with a corresponding point on the phone to receive power.

Beyond charging, the patent suggests the ring will automatically sync with the phone upon connection, seamlessly transferring tracked data. An outer ring on the phone will likely hold the device in place while charging, though the design details leave it unclear if it will sit flush with the phone’s surface.

While only a patent at this stage, it aligns with Samsung’s existing tech. The company already uses its phones to charge devices such as the S Pen stylus. Samsung was also an early adopter of wireless charging for accessories like earphones, charged by a phone.

The Galaxy Ring 2 was anticipated at Samsung’s Unpacked 2025 event in January, but no announcement was made. The patent can be viewed on WIPO under the ID WO2025063477.
