Google and Apple Simplify Cross-Platform Data Transfer

Google and Apple are teaming up to simplify data transfer between Android and iOS devices, making it easier for users to switch during the setup process, as indicated by Android’s Canary operating system build.

This new feature is expected to be available in future developer betas of iOS 18, although the exact timeline remains uncertain. A Google representative confirmed the accuracy of the 9to5Google report regarding this development but refrained from elaborating on the specific transfer mechanisms that will be employed.

Currently, both tech giants offer their own proprietary applications to facilitate transitions between their respective ecosystems: Google’s “Switch to Android” and Apple’s “Switch to iOS.” By integrating this enhanced transfer capability directly at the operating system level and broadening the range of supported data types, the companies aim to provide a more streamlined user experience. The origins of this feature can be traced back to an early development stage, specifically Android Canary, which suggests that it may undergo several iterations before its final release.
