YouTube has introduced an AI-powered Super Resolution feature that automatically upscales low-resolution videos to HD quality and eventually to 4K, enhancing the viewing experience on YouTube TV apps.
The tool specifically targets older videos uploaded in resolutions below 1080p. Despite the upscaling, original video files and resolution options remain available, allowing viewers to select the unupscaled version if preferred. Creators also have the option to opt out of the AI upscaling for their content.
In related updates, YouTube is partnering with select creators to permit larger video uploads, thereby supporting higher-quality footage. Additionally, the platform has raised the thumbnail upload size limit from 2 MB to 50 MB, providing creators with more flexibility.
User experience improvements include immersive previews on the homepage, offering users a more engaging interface. Furthermore, a contextual search function on TV apps has been introduced, which prioritizes results from a creator’s channel, enhancing the discoverability of content.
