If you want to start receiving calls and messages from a previously blocked number, you can easily unblock someone’s phone number on your iPhone or iPad. You can unblock multiple numbers at once from a central list or unblock contacts individually from the Phone, Messages, or FaceTime apps.

You can easily remove a number from your blocked list using several different methods directly on your device, such as through the Settings, Phone, or Messages apps.

To unblock a number using the Settings app, first, open the Settings app, which has a grey cog icon. Then, tap on Phone. You may need to scroll down to find it. Next, tap Blocked Contacts to see a complete list of all your blocked numbers. Tap Edit in the top-right corner of the screen. A red circle will appear next to each blocked number. Tap the red circle next to the number you want to unblock. An Unblock button will appear on the right; tap it to confirm. The number is now unblocked.

Alternatively, you can unblock a number using the Phone app. To do this, open the Phone app from your home screen. Tap Recents at the bottom of the screen to view your call history. Find the number you want to unblock and tap the small “i” icon to the right of it. Scroll to the bottom of the contact screen and tap Unblock this Caller.

You can also unblock a contact using the Messages app. Open the Messages app and tap to open the conversation with the person you want to unblock. At the top of the conversation, tap the contact’s photo or the gray person icon. Tap the info button that appears below the contact’s name. Scroll down and tap Unblock this Caller to allow calls and messages again.

Another method is to use the FaceTime app. Open the FaceTime app and in your list of recent calls, find the contact you wish to unblock. Tap the “i” icon located next to their name or number. Scroll down and tap Unblock this Caller to permit FaceTime calls from them again.

You can unblock any number, even if it’s not saved in your Contacts. The Settings app method is the easiest way to see a complete list of all blocked numbers in one place, which is helpful if you don’t remember the number.

Unblocking a contact immediately restores your ability to communicate with them across all of Apple’s core services. Once unblocked, you will once again receive their phone calls, text messages, and FaceTime requests, ensuring you don’t miss any important or time-sensitive information they might be trying to send you.

Beyond the technical function, managing your block list is about controlling your social and professional connections. Whether you are mending a personal relationship, re-establishing contact with a colleague, or simply correcting a mistake, unblocking someone is a quick way to reopen lines of communication and manage who has access to you.
