Spotify Introduces Venue Follow Feature for Concerts

Spotify has introduced a new feature that allows users to follow specific venues for updates on upcoming concerts, enhancing their live event discovery experience.

The followed venues are stored in a user’s library, providing easy access to event calendars, concert details, and new announcements. Furthermore, the platform enables users to filter upcoming shows at these venues by genre, making it simpler to find events that match their musical preferences.

In a related update, Spotify’s live event feed has increased its refresh frequency to daily, up from its previous weekly schedule. This change aims to deliver more current information to users, keeping them up-to-date with the latest developments in the live music scene. Users can still purchase tickets for shows by tapping on an event, which redirects them to the listed ticketing partner. Spotify currently collaborates with prominent ticketing platforms such as Live Nation and Ticketmaster for ticket sales directly from an artist’s page. It is worth noting that in 2022, Spotify experimented with selling tickets on its own platform, although it has not expanded on this venture since.

This new functionality builds upon other recent efforts by Spotify to enhance live event discovery. Earlier this year, the company launched “Concerts Near You,” a weekly updated playlist featuring 30 songs from artists performing in a user’s area, along with details about their next show. The focus on live events is not unique to Spotify, as competitors are also investing in similar features. For instance, in February, SoundCloud partnered with Ticketmaster and Live Nation to allow artists to list their upcoming shows on their profiles, further highlighting the growing importance of live event integration in music streaming services.
