Xiaomi President Lu Weibing has confirmed that the company will continue to include a rear-facing screen on its flagship smartphones, a feature present on the recently launched Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models.
The Pro models of the Xiaomi 17 series, launched in China last month, incorporate a 2.1-inch LTPO AMOLED screen into the rear camera module. Xiaomi has invested CNY 1 billion in R&D for this feature. The company stated the rear screen contributed to record sales within the first five minutes of availability and helped the series achieve 1 million shipments in record time.
Sales for the entire Xiaomi 17 series increased by 20% compared to the previous generation. The Pro series models specifically saw sales triple in volume compared to the Xiaomi 15 Pro. The success of this feature has prompted Xiaomi to increase its research and development investment to expand the screen’s software capabilities.
Xiaomi intends to add new features to the rear screen on a monthly basis, with a real-time translation function scheduled to arrive in a software update at the end of this month. The feature is expected to be integrated into the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, continuing the trend set by their predecessors.
