EA and Battlefield Studios have introduced a feature in Battlefield 6 that allows players to uninstall the single-player campaign after completion, freeing up approximately 15 GB of storage space.
Following the game’s launch on October 10 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, players who finished the story mode began reporting a pop-up window with the uninstall option. Some users, such as leaker BobNetworkUK on X (formerly Twitter), encountered the message shortly after finishing the nine-mission campaign, which has a runtime of about five hours.
The official in-game message first directs players to explore challenges to acquire unique unlocks tied to the single-player content. It then offers a button to delete the component, stating it will “save space.” Uninstalling the campaign frees approximately 15 GB of storage. If a player also removes related HD texture packs, the storage savings can be greater. After the removal, the remaining multiplayer portion of the game occupies about 55 GB of disk space.
The inclusion of a story mode in Battlefield 6 marks the first mainline campaign in the franchise since Battlefield V in 2018. The series’ 2021 entry, Battlefield 2042, omitted a traditional campaign in favor of a multiplayer-only experience. Player feedback on the new campaign has been mixed. Some in the community feel it successfully captures the series’ signature chaos, but others have criticized its short length and what they describe as a lack of lasting impact.
Critical reception has mirrored some of this sentiment. In its review, IGN gave the Battlefield 6 campaign a 5/10 score. The publication called it a “safe, dull reimagining of what Battlefield once was, rather than a bold reinvention of what it could be.” Despite the mixed views on its campaign, the game’s launch has been commercially successful. According to figures from SteamDB, Battlefield 6 achieved the series’ biggest launch on Steam, peaking at more than 740,000 concurrent players.
While many players engaged with the standard multiplayer and campaign offerings, others have utilized the game’s Portal mode for custom creations. One such creation involved players successfully rebuilding “Shipment,” a well-known classic map from the Call of Duty franchise, within Battlefield 6.
