Amazon has refreshed its Kindle Scribe lineup, introducing its first model designed for writing in color, along with two other models that promise to be slimmer, lighter, and faster, and incorporate AI-driven tools for note-taking and reading.
The new Kindle Scribe series consists of three models, including a redesigned Scribe with a front light, the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, and a less expensive edition without a front light scheduled to arrive in early 2026. All three models feature an 11-inch paper-like display and have reduced parallax for a more natural writing feel. Performance has been improved with a new chip and memory upgrades, enhancing the overall user experience.
The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft boasts a custom Colorsoft display technology, which Amazon claims delivers a softer, more eye-friendly color experience compared to typical LCD screens. This model supports multiple colors for pens and highlighters and introduces a new shading tool for art and notes, expanding the creative possibilities for users. Amazon also assures that the device offers weeks of battery life while maintaining the distraction-free reading environment that Kindle devices are known for.
On the software side, the Scribe lineup will receive a refreshed interface that includes a Quick Notes function and integration with Google Drive and OneDrive, enhancing the device’s utility for both reading and note-taking. An AI-powered notebook feature will enable users to search their handwriting and receive summaries of their notes, making it easier to organize and review their work. Amazon has also announced plans for future updates, including the ability for notes to sync with Alexa Plus for conversational queries and new AI reading features such as spoiler-free recaps and a contextual “Ask this Book” function.
This launch comes after a previous Kindle Colorsoft release last year that was met with reports of screen tint issues, indicating Amazon’s efforts to address previous concerns and improve the product.
The updated Kindle Scribe will be available in the U.S. later this year, starting at $499.99. The Scribe Colorsoft will start at $629.99, while the model without a front light is set to be released in early 2026 for $429.99. Amazon has confirmed that launches in the UK and Germany are also planned for early next year, expanding the availability of the new Kindle Scribe series beyond the U.S. market.
