WhatsApp to Introduce Incognito Mode for AI Chats

WhatsApp is set to introduce a new Incognito Mode for its Meta AI chatbot conversations, enhancing user privacy, as reported by feature tracker WABetaInfo, based on discoveries in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.28.1.

The primary function of this new mode is to facilitate private interactions between users and the Meta AI chatbot. When enabled, WhatsApp will not log the history of user queries, diverging from its current practice of recording conversation data for future reference. With Incognito Mode active, Meta AI will be restricted from utilizing conversation data for training purposes or personalizing user experiences, thereby granting users greater control over their personal data and maintaining privacy.

A notable feature of this functionality is its automatic data deletion mechanism. Upon exiting a chat window with Incognito Mode enabled, user queries are automatically erased from the device. This allows users to inquire about or research sensitive topics without worrying about their data being stored or misused, as highlighted in the report.

The concept of WhatsApp’s Incognito Mode is analogous to the Private Browsing mode on Apple’s Safari and the Incognito Mode on Google Chrome, both offering temporary, non-recorded browsing sessions. Users will reportedly find the option to activate Incognito Mode in the options window, where they can currently start new conversations or view previous chats.

Upon activating Incognito Mode, a prompt will notify the user that “no personalisation, no history, and no memory” will be available for subsequent conversations with the Meta AI chatbot, ensuring transparency about the mode’s functionality.
