Samsung subsidiary Harman has completed its $350 million acquisition of Sound United, the former audio business of Masimo, expanding Samsung’s portfolio of audio brands.
The acquisition brings several prominent audio brands, including Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Marantz, Definitive Technology, Polk Audio, HEOS, Classé, and Boston Acoustics, under the same ownership as existing Harman brands like JBL and Harman Kardon. To maintain brand integrity and customer loyalty, Sound United will operate as a standalone business within Harman’s lifestyle division. This strategic move is expected to bolster Harman’s position in the audio market.
Dave Rogers, Harman’s lifestyle lead, commented on the acquisition, stating, “Sound United’s impressive roster of brands is rooted in a deep passion for sound, innovation, and commitment to quality that aligns with Harman’s own values. This transaction unlocks meaningful growth opportunities for everyone. It bolsters Harman’s strategy to build on its unparalleled success story and scale to unprecedented heights as an audio leader.” Rogers’ statement highlights the synergies between Harman and Sound United, as well as the potential for future growth.
The completion of the acquisition allows Masimo to now focus on the lawsuit it filed in August against U.S. Customs and Border Protection regarding the Apple Watch, marking a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings.
