Android users can now personalize their calling experience by assigning a unique ringtone to individual contacts, a feature that varies slightly depending on the device model.
Depending on whether you have a Samsung Galaxy or another Android model, the process to set a custom ringtone for a contact differs. For Samsung Galaxy users, the Phone app is used, while other Android models like the Pixel or Moto utilize the Google Contacts app.
For Samsung Galaxy users, the steps to assign a custom ringtone are straightforward. Firstly, open the Phone app on your Samsung Galaxy. Then, tap the Contacts tab to view your contact list and select the contact you wish to edit. Tap the small “i” icon inside a circle to view their details, followed by tapping Edit at the bottom of the screen. Scroll down and tap View More to expand the options, and then tap on the Ringtone option. Select a new ringtone from the list provided, tap the back button to return to the contact edit screen, and then select Save to confirm your changes. The next time this person calls, you will hear your chosen ringtone.
For users of other Android phones, the process is equally simple. Open the Google Contacts app on your phone and tap the contact you want to assign a custom ringtone to. Tap the three vertical dots menu (⋮) located in the top-right corner, and from the dropdown menu, tap Set ringtone. Select the ringtone you want to use from the list, or browse and select an audio file from your phone’s storage if you prefer a custom sound file. Once you’ve made your choice, tap Save to apply the new ringtone to the contact.
For more personalization, users can download ringtone maker apps from the Google Play Store to trim their favorite songs into custom ringtones directly on their device. This feature is particularly useful as it allows users to instantly recognize who is calling without having to look at their screen, which is especially useful when driving, in a meeting, or having their hands full.
Assigning unique ringtones to specific contacts is a simple yet effective way to personalize your smartphone experience. It helps users prioritize calls, ensuring they don’t miss an important call from a family member, their boss, or a close friend. By setting distinct audio cues for key people in their life, users make their phone a more efficient and intuitive communication tool.
