Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro is slated for camera enhancements, potentially sporting a new telephoto lens, according to Majin Bu. The anticipated upgrades extend beyond previously leaked information, promising a surprise for photography enthusiasts.
The iPhone 17 Pro may feature a 48-megapixel sensor telephoto lens. While not entirely new information, Majin Bu’s report provides additional details surrounding this change.
Current iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models have a 12-megapixel sensor telephoto lens enabling 5x optical zoom. The 17 Pro models may introduce a telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom. The higher resolution sensor could allow Apple to offer zoom greater than 5x with a digital crop.
The iPhone 16 has a 48-megapixel sensor that uses a 2x digital zoom, cropping the full image into a 12-megapixel photo. Majin Bu suggests the iPhone 17 Pro’s change will benefit users, as the current 5x lens requires users to move away from the subject to take portrait photos. The 3.5x lens would facilitate easier portrait photography while still enabling up to 7x digital zoom.
Other sources suggest all iPhone 17 models will feature a new 24-megapixel selfie camera. Pro models may also offer 8K video recording for the first time. The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to be announced in September.
