Google Discover Feed to Include Social Media Posts

Google announced on September 17, 2025, that its Discover feed will integrate posts from X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, alongside YouTube Shorts, expanding beyond traditional web articles to offer a more diverse content mix.

The Discover feed, accessible on the homescreen of the Google app, already delivers personalized recommendations and AI-generated summaries tailored to users’ web activity. This update, set to begin in the coming weeks, will initially include content from a limited number of social platforms, with plans to add more sources over time. According to Google, research participants expressed enjoyment in seeing a variety of content, including videos and social posts, in addition to articles. “In our research, people told us they enjoyed seeing a mix of content in Discover, including videos and social posts, in addition to articles,” the company stated.

To enhance customization, Google is introducing a follow feature that allows users to follow creators or publishers directly from the feed, similar to the recent option for selecting preferred news sources on Google Search. Before following, users can tap a creator’s name to preview their social posts and articles. This functionality requires users to be signed in to their Google account.

The changes reflect Google’s efforts to make the Discover feed a comprehensive hub for personalized media consumption, blending traditional articles with dynamic social and video elements. While the initial rollout will include content from X, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts, Google plans to expand to more sources over time, although no specific timeline was provided for the full expansion of social platform integrations.
