WhatsApp has introduced a new “Remind me” feature for iOS users, enabling them to set reminders for specific incoming messages and avoid forgetting important replies.
The update, reported by WABetaInfo, builds on testing that began a few weeks ago and is now live in the latest version of the app. The feature enables users to schedule notifications for unread messages using either preset timers or a custom duration between 1 minute and 24 hours. Once set, reminders can be canceled at any time, providing flexibility for users who might change their plans. It functions seamlessly in both one-on-one chats and group conversations, making it versatile for various communication needs.
When the timer expires, a notification appears in the chat, mimicking a new message but clearly marked with a “🔔 Reminder” tag to distinguish it from actual incoming texts. This design ensures users can quickly identify and respond to previously overlooked messages without confusion.
Privacy is a key aspect of the feature, as Meta emphasizes that reminders remain private. Other participants in the conversation will not be notified or see any indication that a reminder has been set, preserving the discreet nature of personal message management.
This addition addresses a common pain point for WhatsApp’s over 2 billion global users, who often juggle numerous unread messages. By integrating simple reminder tools directly into the app, WhatsApp enhances user productivity and engagement without requiring third-party solutions.
