Hades 2, the highly anticipated sequel from Supergiant Games, is now available for preorder in both digital and physical formats, with distinct release timelines for each edition.

The game, which has garnered an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam during its early access phase, is set to launch digitally on September 25, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam. This initial release will allow players to experience the full 1.0 version without additional purchases for those who already own the early access edition.

The digital edition is priced at $29.99 and can be preordered immediately through the Nintendo eShop for Switch users. For PC players on Steam, the transition to the full release is seamless: early access owners will simply receive the 1.0 update on launch day. This update promises to deliver the complete game, building on the roguelike action that made the original Hades a standout title. Supergiant Games has confirmed that save files from the PC early access version can be transferred to Nintendo consoles, enabling players to continue their progress seamlessly across platforms.

In contrast, the physical edition for Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for a later release on November 20, 2025, creating a two-month wait for those preferring a tangible copy. Priced at $49.99, the physical version is $20 more expensive than its digital counterpart, reflecting the added value of the cartridge format. Preorders are now live at major retailers including Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy, with payments deferred until shipment rather than at the time of order. This policy provides flexibility for eager fans who want to secure their copy early without immediate financial commitment.

A key highlight of the physical edition is its compatibility and completeness. The game cartridge contains the full version of Hades 2, eliminating the need for additional downloads or codes that are common in some third-party Switch titles. Notably, the cartridge is backward compatible, functioning on the original Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, and even the Switch Lite models. This dual-version packing on the card ensures no extra costs for upgrading from older Switch hardware to the Switch 2, making it an attractive option for a wide range of Nintendo owners.

During the Nintendo Direct presentation in September 2025, Supergiant showcased impressive technical details for the Switch 2 version. Hades 2 will run at a smooth 120 frames per second in TV mode, optimizing the game’s fast-paced combat and fluid animations for the new console’s capabilities. This performance enhancement positions the title as an ideal portable experience, especially given its roguelike structure that encourages short, replayable sessions. Early access feedback, including from IGN’s review, has praised the game’s depth and polish, with many highlighting its suitability for on-the-go play, such as on the Steam Deck.

Exclusivity adds another layer to the release strategy. The physical edition is a timed console exclusive for Nintendo platforms, with no announced dates for PlayStation or Xbox versions. Industry speculation suggests a potential console launch on those systems could occur between late 2026 and early 2027, allowing Supergiant to focus initially on Nintendo’s ecosystem. This approach mirrors the original Hades’ path, which eventually expanded to multiple platforms after its initial success.

The buzz around Hades 2 stems from its predecessor’s critical acclaim, including multiple Game of the Year awards. The sequel expands on the mythological narrative, introducing new characters, abilities, and environments while retaining the addictive loop of runs through the underworld. With early access already captivating players and the full release imminent, Hades 2 is poised to dominate gaming discussions this fall. Whether opting for the quicker digital launch or the collectible physical copy, fans have compelling reasons to preorder and prepare for another immersive journey.

For those still on the fence, the game’s Steam rating and hands-on impressions underscore its quality. As Robert Anderson, IGN’s Senior Commerce Editor, noted in his coverage, “It’ll suit Switch 2 so well,” emphasizing its potential as a must-play title across devices. Preordering now ensures access to this roguelike masterpiece, whether diving in digitally next month or holding out for the physical edition later in the year.
