Qualcomm is set to unveil its next flagship chipset, potentially named Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii later this month, promising a significant performance boost.
A recent rumor from China indicates that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is expected to achieve Antutu benchmark scores ranging from 4.2 million to 4.4 million. For context, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 is anticipated to score around 4 million in the same benchmark, while the current top-performing device on the Antutu chart, the Red Magic 10 Pro powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, averages a score of 2.67 million.
If the rumored scores for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 are accurate, this would signify at least a 58% increase in performance compared to the current benchmark leader. It would also outperform the Dimensity 9500 by approximately 5-10%. However, it is worth noting that the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s existing results are based on Antutu v10, whereas the leaked scores for the Dimensity 9500 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 are from Antutu v11, which could impact direct comparisons.
Earlier reports suggested that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, previously referred to as the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, is expected to deliver a 20-30% improvement in single-core Geekbench scores and a 10-15% improvement in multi-core scores over the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The forthcoming months are likely to see the official announcements of these next-generation chipsets and their integration into various flagship smartphones.
