IGN has concluded its month-long fan-voted tournament to determine the Greatest Racing Game of All Time, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe emerging as the top title. The tournament, presented by Toyota Gazoo Racing, featured 32 racing games across four regions.
The competition was fierce, with fans casting their votes on IGN’s website and social media platforms throughout August to decide each round’s winners. The four regions – Arcade Racing, Simulation, Street Racing, and Wild Card – saw intense matchups, with several notable titles making it to the later stages.
In the Arcade Racing region, Burnout 3: Takedown secured a spot in the Final Four by defeating titles such as OutRun, DriveClub, and Hot Wheels Unleashed. Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe dominated the Wild Card region, overcoming Diddy Kong Racing, Wreckfest, and Crash Team Racing to advance.
The Simulation region was represented by Gran Turismo 7, which triumphed over Forza Motorsport, iRacing, and F1 2020. In the Street Racing region, Forza Horizon 5 beat out Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition to secure a place in the Final Four.
The Final Four matchups saw Mario Kart 8 Deluxe decisively defeat Burnout 3: Takedown, while Forza Horizon 5 narrowly edged out Gran Turismo 7, setting the stage for a final showdown between Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Forza Horizon 5.
In the end, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was crowned IGN’s Greatest Racing Game of All Time, prevailing over Forza Horizon 5 in the Grand Finale. The tournament sparked considerable debate and nostalgia among fans, who actively participated in the voting process throughout the month.
