Acer has showcased a refreshed Swift 16 AI laptop at IFA 2025, powered by an Intel Panther Lake processor, underscoring the impending market availability of Intel’s 18A node chips.

The Swift 16 AI is distinct from Acer’s existing Swift Air 16, an AMD-based gaming laptop, highlighting Acer’s diversification in its product lineup. The unveiling is significant as it indicates that Intel’s 18A node chips are nearing market readiness, having previously been seen mainly in demonstration systems.

One of the standout features of the Swift 16 AI is its expansive trackpad, touted by Acer as the “world’s largest haptic trackpad with stylus support.” This trackpad is notable for its size, extending from the keyboard to the front edge of the laptop, potentially enhancing user experience with its haptic feedback and stylus compatibility.

The laptop is equipped with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, two USB-C ports, and a Thunderbolt 4 port, showcasing its robust connectivity and performance capabilities. The 16-inch display is available with a 3K OLED panel option, featuring a 120 Hz refresh rate, which is likely to appeal to users seeking high-quality visuals.

Despite the detailed specifications, pricing information for the Swift 16 AI remains unavailable, pending further details about the Panther Lake processor. Intel achieved risk production for its 18A node in the spring, suggesting that Panther Lake systems could start emerging this year, with wider availability expected in 2026.

Intel is currently undergoing significant strategic changes under the leadership of CEO Lip-Bu Tan, with a focus on operational streamlining and engineering emphasis. Additionally, the company is navigating a shift in its relationship with the U.S. government, following the White House’s conversion of CHIPS Act funds into a 10% equity stake in Intel. Intel has raised concerns that this development could affect its relationships with international customers and governments, adding a layer of complexity to its global operations.
