The Galaxy S25 series is set to receive the stable One UI 8 update, based on Android 16, with the Galaxy S25 FE being the first device in the lineup to come with the new software pre-installed.
The decision to showcase One UI 8 on the newly launched Galaxy S25 FE marks a departure from Samsung’s previous approach, where the Galaxy S24 FE launched with the same One UI version, 6.1.1, as other S24 models. While Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra owners await the update on their devices, this move allows the tech giant to highlight the latest software advancements with its mid-range Fan Edition phone before deploying it to its flagship models.
Samsung has committed to a September rollout of the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra. Ahead of this broader release, a substantial monthly security update, potentially exceeding 1 GB in size, is expected to arrive for the S25 series. According to sources familiar with the rollout strategy, “Samsung probably just wanted the Galaxy S25 FE to be able to flex its shiny new software at launch.”
The Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and the Galaxy S24 series are also slated to receive the stable One UI 8 update as it becomes available later in September. Galaxy S25 series owners can anticipate the arrival of the One UI 8 update later this month, following the initial release on the Galaxy S25 FE and the forthcoming security update.
