IBM and AMD have announced a groundbreaking partnership to develop next-generation computing architectures by integrating IBM’s quantum systems with AMD’s AI-specialized chips, aiming to create a commercially viable, scalable, and open-source quantum computing architecture.

This collaboration is expected to enhance complex problem-solving capabilities in various fields, including drug and materials discovery, optimization, and logistics, thereby broadening accessibility for researchers and developers. The partnership is poised to position both companies as key infrastructure players in the technology sector.

IBM’s CEO, Arvind Krishna, highlighted the potential of this hybrid model, stating that combining IBM’s quantum computers with AMD’s high-performance computing technologies will “push past the limits of traditional computing.” The collaboration is particularly significant given the relative lag experienced by both companies in the generative AI sector.
