Google is gearing up to launch refreshed versions of its Nest Cam Indoor, Nest Cam Outdoor, and Nest Doorbell devices, marking a significant update to its Nest product line after years of relative stagnation.
The Nest Cam Indoor (3rd Gen) is set to be available in three colors: Snow, Berry, and Hazel. This new generation of the indoor camera will feature 2K HDR resolution, Gemini integration, and local fallback storage to ensure continued functionality during Wi-Fi outages. Additionally, it will include digital zoom capabilities of up to 6x and event previews from the past three hours, enhancing its utility for home security.
The Nest Cam Outdoor (2nd Gen) will closely mirror the features of its indoor counterpart, boasting 2K HDR resolution and Gemini integration. It will be available in Snow and Hazel, with the latter color potentially being exclusive to the Google Store. Like the indoor model, it will also benefit from local fallback storage, ensuring that it remains operational even without a stable internet connection.
The Nest Doorbell (3rd Gen) is undergoing its first major update since 2021, with a significant upgrade to 2K HDR resolution. It will also be available in new color options: Snow, Hazel, and Linen. One of the most notable additions to the Nest Doorbell is the Gemini-powered Daily Summaries feature, which provides users with a concise recap of the day’s events, leveraging the advanced capabilities of Gemini integration.
Alongside these hardware updates, Google is revamping its subscription model for Nest devices. Nest Aware is slated to be rebranded as Google Home Premium, and a new Advanced tier is also in the works. While specific pricing details have not been disclosed, this change indicates a shift in how Google will structure its services for Nest users.
The integration of Gemini into these devices is designed to replace Google Assistant, marking a significant evolution in Google’s approach to smart home device interaction. This refresh comes after a period of relative quiet for Google’s smart home brand, which had led to speculation about the future of the Nest line. However, the recent unveiling of a new smart speaker during the Made by Google event, coupled with the forthcoming updates to the camera and doorbell devices, signals that Google is committed to continuing its investment in the Nest ecosystem.
