Meta has continued its AI talent acquisition from Apple with the latest hire, Frank Chu, according to a Bloomberg report. Chu previously led Apple AI teams focused on cloud infrastructure, training, and search.

Chu will be joining Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, a newly formed AI division spearheaded by Mark Zuckerberg. This strategic move comes amidst reports of a company-wide hiring freeze at Meta, suggesting that the company is making exceptions for key AI personnel. Chu is Meta’s sixth AI hire from Apple in the last seven weeks.

The hiring spree follows the recruitment of Ruoming Pang, Apple’s lead at the foundation models team. Following Pang’s move, several of his colleagues have also joined Meta. This influx of talent coincides with Meta’s ongoing efforts to restructure its AI division, marking its fourth reshaping in six months.

These changes aim to accommodate new hires and align with Meta’s broader vision for AI. However, Meta has also faced internal challenges, with reports surfacing of defections from its own AI teams due to internal culture and organizational issues, according to Forbes.

Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly grappling with its AI strategy. Following questions during Apple’s Q3 2025 conference call, CEO Tim Cook held a company-wide meeting to address the company’s AI challenges. Cook pledged that Apple would “make the investment” to catch up in the field. However, the ongoing departure of AI researchers poses a significant obstacle to Apple’s ambitions.

The article also mentions limited-time deals on Apple Watches available on Amazon, including the Apple Watch Ultra 2 for $649.99 (19% off), Apple Watch Series 10 (46mm) for $329 (32% off), and Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen, 40mm) for $169 (32% off).
