Netflix has begun rolling out a significant redesign for its tvOS app, targeting Apple TV 4K users. The updated interface for the popular streaming service is now becoming available with the latest tvOS app update.
The redesign focuses on several key improvements aimed at enhancing user experience. A primary goal is to simplify content discovery by placing “all the information you need to make an informed choice about what to watch front and center.” This includes prominent callouts such as “Emmy Award Winner” or “#1 in TV Shows” to highlight a title’s relevance.
Visibility and accessibility have also been improved. Shortcuts to essential features like “Search” and “My List,” which were previously less noticeable on the left-hand side, have been relocated to the top of the page for easier access. Furthermore, Netflix is enhancing its recommendation engine, making homepage suggestions “more responsive to your moods and interests in the moment,” aiming for better real-time personalization.
The updated app also boasts an “Elevated Design,” described as a “clean and modern design that better reflects the elevated experience you’ve come to expect on Netflix.” This new aesthetic shares similarities with Apple’s own TV app, particularly its navigation menu at the top of the screen, which Apple’s TV app has utilized for some time. This commonality is expected to create a more cohesive user experience for those who frequently use both the Apple TV and Netflix applications on their devices.
The rollout follows Netflix’s initial announcement in May regarding upcoming changes to both its iOS and tvOS applications. Users who haven’t yet seen the changes are advised to ensure they are running the most current version of the Netflix application.
