Capcom is releasing a significant update, Ver. 1.021, for Monster Hunter Wilds on August 13, addressing community feedback and expanding the game’s endgame content. Director Yuya Tokuda issued a letter of apology to the community.

The 1.021 update introduces 9 Monsters and Talismans, alongside comprehensive weapon balance adjustments, quality-of-life enhancements, and various optimizations. The update requires approximately 3 GB of space on PlayStation 5, 2 GB on Xbox Series X|S, and 2 GB on Steam (or 6 GB with the High Resolution Texture Pack).

A key focus for Capcom is improving “stability” for the PC version, which has garnered “mostly negative” recent reviews on Steam. Tokuda apologized for delays in these fixes, noting that not all stability improvements are included in the 1.021 patch but remain a priority for future updates.

The decision to expedite the endgame content expansion, originally planned for Title Update 3, was made following “soft sales” of Monster Hunter Wilds. This accelerated release aims to address the community’s desire for more robust endgame experiences. Capcom has committed to ongoing improvements, with Title Update 3 slated for late September and Title Update 4 for this winter.

Major additions in Update 1.021 include tempered versions of nine monsters appearing as 9 quests at HR 100 or higher, a new appraisal item called Glowing Stone, and various system features such as the ability to hide/show specific ammo and coatings in the Ammo/Coatings Bar. The update also includes bug fixes and balance adjustments for monsters, players, and weapons.

The update introduces new features such as the Glowing Stone appraisal item, which yields a talisman with random skill attributes upon quest completion. The upgrade limit for armor of rarity 5 and above has been increased. New system features include the ability to set weapons, armor, and talismans as Favorites and improved directional input responsiveness on the World Map.

Bug fixes include rectifying issues where Focus Strikes could fail near exposed weak points and where it was difficult to cause wounds while mounted on certain monsters. Damage scaling during mounts has been adjusted, and various other issues have been resolved.

Weapon balance changes have been implemented for 11 weapon types, including Great Sword, Long Sword, and Dual Blades. The changes aim to improve the overall gameplay experience and provide more diverse build options.

Capcom is actively working to improve game stability, particularly for the Steam version. A critical bug causing crashes will be fixed in Ver. 1.021. The development team is strengthening its checking system to prevent application-side crashes and will investigate and fix bugs promptly.

Regarding CPU usage optimization for the Steam version, Title Update 2 addressed shader compilation bugs and reduced anti-cheat processing load. Further CPU load reduction is planned for the fourth title update this winter.

Capcom expressed gratitude for player feedback and requests, promising to continue sharing development progress through Guild Reports and official social media channels. They assured that various fixes and adjustments will continue through future updates, alongside the implementation of new content.
