Google has introduced a new full-screen mode for Google Meet, enhancing the visibility of presentations and screen shares during video calls by maximizing the display area for shared content.
The new feature is designed to improve focus on shared materials like slide decks, documents, or demos by relocating meeting participants to a slim sidebar, thus minimizing distractions from the presentation itself. Previously, a significant portion of the screen was occupied by participant galleries. With this update, the shared content takes center stage, occupying a larger section of the screen.
The rollout of the new full-screen mode commenced on July 29 for Rapid Release domains, with Google anticipating that the full deployment to these domains could take over two weeks. Scheduled Release domains are slated to receive the feature starting August 14, with wider availability expected within a few days of that date.
To activate the full-screen mode, users can click the “Enter full screen” button located at the bottom of an active presentation. This new functionality is accessible to all Google Workspace customers, including Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts. According to Google, while this update may not be the most significant, it is expected to streamline the user experience during presentations.
