Apple’s OLED MacBook Pro Delayed to 2027

The anticipated overhaul of Apple’s MacBook Pro, featuring an OLED display, may not debut until early 2027, according to recent reports, potentially delaying a significant design refresh initially speculated for late 2026.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, in his “Power On” newsletter, highlighted that the revamped MacBook Pro is still expected to incorporate a thinner design, an M6 chip, and an OLED screen, representing a substantial change from current models. Gurman stated, “It means I need to see something entirely new if I’m going to get excited about upgrading. And that’s where the revamped MacBook Pro with an OLED screen comes into play. It’s arriving between the end of 2026 and early 2027 and should boast the M6 chip. That Mac represents enough of a change to finally move the needle.”

Earlier rumors had pointed to a more incremental MacBook Pro refresh with the M5 chip by the end of the current year, followed by the comprehensive M6 and OLED overhaul a year later. However, the M5 MacBook Pro’s reported delay until next spring suggests a similar pushback for the M6-powered OLED model, aligning with Gurman’s revised timeline.

Despite the potential delay, there is historical precedent for Apple releasing multiple MacBook Pro models within the same calendar year. For instance, in 2023, Apple launched both the M2 Pro/Max and M3 Pro/Max 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, with the M2 models introduced in January and the M3 versions following in October.

Consumers awaiting a substantial MacBook Pro upgrade may face an additional wait of approximately 18 months. For those unwilling to wait, current deals on Apple’s M4 MacBook Pro models are available, with the base 14-inch model reportedly priced at $1299.
