YouTube is expanding its experimental AI-powered search results carousel to more Premium subscribers in the US, allowing users to discover content more efficiently through AI-generated topic descriptions.
The carousel, initially announced by Google in June, is accessible on both iOS and Android devices for Premium users in the US and is set to remain available until August 20. After this date, Google will assess the potential for a wider rollout to additional regions.
The AI-powered search results carousel appears at the top of specific search results, particularly for queries related to shopping, travel, or local activities. When a user conducts such a search, the carousel displays a row of relevant videos, each accompanied by a brief, AI-generated description of its topic. For instance, a search for “Best beaches in Hawaii” might present a curated selection of videos with concise summaries, enabling viewers to quickly access pertinent content without extensive scrolling.
The experimental feature is currently exclusive to the YouTube mobile app and supports only English-language videos. It does not appear for every search query. Users interested in trying the feature can opt-in via the designated YouTube Premium New Features page. The trial’s success in the US will determine if YouTube expands this AI-powered discovery tool to other regions after the current testing period concludes later this month.
