A new board game based on the popular “The Sims” franchise, titled “The Sims Board Game,” was quietly released at Target on July 20, 2025, despite Electronic Arts indicating that “The Sims 5” is not expected soon.

The game, a collaboration with Goliath, was initially announced in February but appears to have largely gone unnoticed by the gaming community since its availability. It aims to translate the life simulation experience of “The Sims” into a tabletop format. According to the official “how-to-play” video published by Goliath, players earn points by completing aspirations and various in-game actions. The objective is for the first player to reach eight points to win, with an optional extension to ten points for a longer game. Designed for 2-5 players, the game’s mechanics have been described as potentially confusing, with the narrator of the instructional video even suggesting players might “toss out the rulebook.”

The transition of “The Sims” into a multiplayer board game has raised questions among long-time fans of the video game, who often prefer the solitary nature of the original experience. Despite being marketed as a family board game, some observers have expressed skepticism about its appeal for group play. The game’s price point is set at $19.99, making it a relatively affordable option for those interested in trying it.

While it initially premiered at Target, “The Sims Board Game” is now available for preorder on Amazon, with an anticipated release date of August 15. The quiet launch and subsequent lack of widespread discussion suggest that the board game has yet to capture significant attention from the broader gaming audience or “The Sims” fan base.
