New leaks from Ice Universe suggest MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9500 chipset will feature significant advancements in GPU efficiency and performance, particularly in ray tracing.

The GPU, potentially marketed as a Mali-G1-Ultra MC12 and clocked at 1.0GHz, is rumored to improve energy efficiency by “over 40% compared to the previous generation.” A major highlight is the purported 40% increase in ray tracing performance, which Ice Universe claims will enable the GPU to run ray tracing games at 100 frames per second (fps) or higher. This enhanced capability could significantly impact mobile gaming experiences.

Beyond the GPU, the Dimensity 9500 is expected to feature an all-big core CPU configuration. This includes one Cortex-X930 (Travis) core clocked at 3.23GHz, three Alto cores at 3.03GHz, and four Gelas cores at 2.23GHz.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9500 flagship chip is anticipated to be unveiled before the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, indicating a launch prior to late September. This release is expected to precede a wave of new flagship smartphone announcements. The improved performance of ARM Mali GPUs also holds implications for PC game emulation, which recently saw significant strides and could benefit from the Dimensity 9500’s power. The adoption of this GPU in other chipsets remains to be seen, with speculation around Samsung’s GPU strategy and Google’s potential shift to an Imagination GPU for its Tensor G5.
