Nintendo’s Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling game console in history, selling 5.82 million units globally by the end of June, nearly one month after its launch.
This achievement exceeds the console’s first-week sales of over 3.5 million units and more than doubles the original Switch’s first-month sales of 2.7 million, marking a significant milestone in the gaming industry.
The demand for the Switch 2 continues to outpace supply in many countries, prompting Nintendo to apologize for the shortages and pledge to increase production to meet the growing demand.
The console’s record-breaking performance has driven Nintendo’s Q2 (April-June) revenue to $3.8 billion, representing a 132% surge from $1.6 billion in Q2 2024, highlighting the significant impact of the Switch 2 on Nintendo’s financials.
Despite the success, Nintendo faces uncertainty due to new U.S. tariffs, with a 20% levy on Vietnamese imports, where the Switch 2 is manufactured, announced by the Trump administration, increasing from the previous 10%.
Nintendo had forecasted 15 million units sold by March 2025, but the impact of the new tariffs on the company’s sales projections and overall business remains to be seen.
