THQ Nordic unveiled Darksiders 4 during its 2025 showcase event, releasing a teaser trailer and confirming Gunfire Games as the developer, a studio known for its work on Darksiders 3 and Darksiders Genesis.
The new installment continues the saga of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, picking up where the original 2010 game concluded. Like its predecessors, Darksiders 4 is a third-person action-adventure game featuring combat, traversal, and puzzle-solving in a post-apocalyptic setting. Players will control one of the Four Horsemen, each wielding unique weapons and distinct combat styles.
Gunfire Games describes the “cinematic” combat as “fast-paced, visceral action blending melee, fluid traversal, and supernatural abilities.” The game will offer various gameplay modes, including single-player, split-screen, and online cooperative modes for 2-4 players. This versatility in gameplay caters to different player preferences, enhancing the game’s replay value.
Darksiders 4 represents the franchise’s return after a five-year dormancy, during which Gunfire Games released other notable titles such as the Remnant series and Chronos: Before the Ashes. The Darksiders series debuted with Vigil Games’ Darksiders in 2010, followed by Darksiders 2 in 2012. The latest installment aims to continue the core narrative involving the Horsemen’s struggle to maintain cosmic balance on a ravaged Earth.
While THQ Nordic did not provide a release window for Darksiders 4, they confirmed that wishlists are now open for the game. The publisher highlighted the game’s “lore-rich” world, emphasizing its deep narrative and expansive universe. This announcement has generated significant anticipation among fans, who are eager to dive back into the world of the Four Horsemen.
