Adobe Releases Beta Creative Apps for Windows Arm

Adobe has launched public beta versions of Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, and Media Encoder for Windows on Arm, marking a significant step in natively supporting ARM64-based systems.

The Premiere Pro ARM64 beta currently lacks support for key features including third-party extensions, raw video files like ProRes, and hardware-accelerated H.264/HEVC playback and export in MP4 format. While Adobe intends to address some of these omissions in future updates, certain functionalities such as the Loudness Radar effect, export to Wraptor DCP, import/export of GoPro CineForm content, and export to the P2 Movie format will not be available in any Windows on Arm version of Premiere Pro.

The After Effects ARM64 beta also has limitations, most notably the absence of ProRes support. Additionally, it cannot import or export ARRIRAW, SWF, GoPro CinePro, JPEG20000 in MXF, and WMV files. Import of MotionJPEG and MKV formats is also disabled in the beta, along with hardware-accelerated H.264/HEVC playback and export in MP4. Adobe has cautioned that third-party plug-ins for After Effects require specific updates to function on the Windows on Arm platform.

Similar feature gaps exist in the beta versions of Audition and Media Encoder for Windows on Arm. Adobe initially released an Arm beta version of Photoshop for Windows in late 2020. The delay in releasing native ARM64 versions of Premiere Pro and After Effects has meant that owners of Qualcomm-powered Copilot Plus PCs have relied on the emulated version of Premiere Pro, which struggles with demanding video editing tasks.

These beta releases aim to provide native support for Adobe’s creative suite on Windows on Arm, although users should be aware of the current limitations and missing features compared to the Intel-based versions.
