Nintendo Switch Online members can now access Mario Paint, a classic title originally released in 1992 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), allowing users to bring their creative video projects to life.
Mario Paint is a creative game that utilizes mouse controls for drawing, creating animated sequences, and composing music. The game enables users to “Bring your very own video creations to life by combining animation and music with the art you’ve made!” It is compatible with both the original Nintendo Switch and the recently launched Switch 2. While Switch 2 users can leverage the console’s built-in mouse functionality, original Switch owners will require a compatible USB mouse to play.
The addition of Mario Paint expands Nintendo Switch Online’s SNES game catalog, which already includes popular titles such as Donkey Kong Country, Earthworm Jim 2, and Star Fox. Furthermore, Nintendo has integrated Mario Paint’s music into the Nintendo Music App. In related news, two other SNES titles available on the Switch app, Mario’s Super Picross and Nobunaga’s Ambition, now also support mouse controls.
Beyond the software updates, Nintendo recently unveiled a Lego Game Boy model, available for pre-order in the UK. The new Switch 2 console has also achieved significant commercial success, becoming the fastest-selling video game hardware device in U.S. history, surpassing the PlayStation 4.
