Xbox Games Coming to PS5: State of Decay 3

Xbox Games Coming to PS5: State of Decay 3

PlayStation 5 owners may soon gain access to two additional Xbox-published titles: State of Decay 3 and Gears of War: E-Day, according to recent reports. This information stems from a report by MP1st, which cites developer resumes listing PS5 as a target platform for both games.

This potential expansion aligns with Microsoft’s recent strategy of bringing more of its first-party titles to other platforms. Last year, Microsoft confirmed plans to release four previously Xbox-exclusive games on PlayStation 5 and Switch. Since then, titles such as Grounded, Sea of Thieves, and Hi-Fi Rush have successfully launched on additional platforms. More recently, Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have also become available on PlayStation.

Furthermore, the original Gears of War is confirmed to launch on PlayStation later this year as part of its “Reloaded” edition. This sets a precedent for Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel set 14 years before the original game, which is being co-developed with People Can Fly. John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro are set to reprise their roles as Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago in the new installment.

State of Decay 3 was initially announced during Microsoft’s 2020 Xbox showcase. Following reports of alleged sexism and mismanagement at developer Undead Labs in 2022, the game re-emerged last year with a new trailer. Studio head Philip Holt hinted at a shared world experience with increased player independence, stating, “The first thing that I hope people pick up [from the trailer] is that there’s four player characters we’re highlighting, three of them start in different places in the world – so we’re implying this idea of a shared world experience, not just a ride-along, and that the boundaries in which you can go off independently are going to be much, much greater than they were in State of Decay 2.” The potential availability of State of Decay 3 on PS5 raises questions about whether the first two games in the series might also eventually come to the platform.
