WhatsApp is testing a new message reminders feature to help users manage conversations more effectively, as discovered in the latest Android beta version by WABetaInfo.
The feature allows users to set specific reminders for individual messages by long-pressing on a message, selecting “Remind me,” and choosing from preset intervals of 2 hours, 8 hours, or 24 hours, or setting a custom timer. Once activated, a small bell icon appears in the corner of the message.
Upon the timer’s expiration, WhatsApp issues a notification labeled “🔔Reminder,” including the message content, chat origin, and a media preview, similar to a standard notification.
WhatsApp is also experimenting with a proactive reminder system to notify users about unread messages from frequently contacted individuals, aiming to help users manage multiple conversations and avoid overlooking important messages.
The launch date for these features is uncertain, but WhatsApp is expected to expand the tests to the iOS platform in due course.
