Atari and Namco, in collaboration with Plaion, have announced the Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition, a new console celebrating Pac-Man’s 45th birthday, building on the original Atari 2600+ released in 2023.
The new Pac-Man Edition incorporates modern features such as HDMI output, USB power, and multiple screen resolutions. A notable design change is the shift from the original Atari 2600’s woody aesthetic to a predominantly “signature Pac-Man yellow” color scheme. The console’s body is bright yellow, with Pac-Man and ghost imagery on the front panel and a matching yellow cartridge slot and knobs on the black upper panel.
Plaion stated, “The Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition is more than just a console, it’s a tribute to the moment home gaming truly began. By reimagining the iconic hardware in Pac-Man’s unmistakable style, we’re celebrating the legacy of two cultural giants who helped define a generation of play.”
Pre-orders for the Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition will begin on July 23rd, priced at £129.99. The package includes the console, one yellow CX-40 wireless joystick, and a Pac-Man Double Feature cartridge. This cartridge contains Pac-Man 2600, Pac-Man’s home console debut from 1982, and Pac-Man 7800, described as a “brand new, arcade-style version of the classic.”
Additionally, individual CX40+ wireless joysticks, matching the iconic ghosts, will be available for pre-order from July 23rd at £29.99 each. These joysticks will come in Blue (Inky), Red (Blinky), Pink (Pinky), and Orange (Clyde) variants, in addition to the yellow option.
