Following the release of the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, which introduced notable advancements in cameras, display, and design, rumors are circulating about even more significant upgrades for the upcoming Huawei Pura 90 series. A Weibo tipster indicated that the Pura 90 Pro+ and Ultra models are expected to feature “bigger surprises,” with initial speculation focusing on the Kirin chipset.
Industry observers and netizens anticipate major developments in Huawei’s proprietary Kirin processors. While specific details remain unconfirmed, there are strong suggestions that Huawei plans to debut its first 5nm processor next year. This new-generation chip is reportedly in development, although it is not expected to be integrated into devices this year. Concurrently, Huawei has been consistently enhancing its 7nm chips, exemplified by the Kirin 9020 version, which has progressively improved the performance of its smartphones and tablets.
Beyond the chipset, another significant potential upgrade for the Pura 90 Pro+ and Ultra models is the adoption of a flat screen. This aligns with reports that Huawei has reportedly increased orders for 2.5D flat screens for its future smartphone lineup. Should the Mate 80 series standardize flat screens, it is plausible that the Pura 90 series would follow suit. Flat screens offer advantages such as consistent and accurate viewing experiences, alongside potential cost-effectiveness.
Imaging technology is also expected to receive substantial advancements. As a Pura series hallmark, the Pura 90 models are anticipated to incorporate more sophisticated camera innovations, although the precise nature of these improvements has yet to be revealed. While it is still early to confirm all the major upgrades, the consensus suggests that the next-generation Pura flagships will introduce notable changes, building upon the foundations laid by the Pura 80 Ultra.
