Apple has introduced several new features to its Photos app in iOS 26, unveiled at WWDC25, marking a significant update to the app’s functionality and user experience.

A notable change is the reintroduction of a tab bar layout, a departure from the previous year’s single-page redesign. This update is expected to enhance user navigation and accessibility within the app. Additionally, users will now be able to create spatial scenes from their existing photo collections, further enriching their visual experiences.

The iOS 26 Photos app boasts an enhanced event recognition capability, allowing it to identify and group photos taken at significant events such as concerts and sporting events. Upon recognizing these events, the app will provide users with relevant insights and details.

For instance, when the app identifies concert photos, it will display the setlist, performing artists, venue information, related playlists, and details about upcoming concerts. Similarly, for sporting events, it will offer the scoreboard, venue details, and schedules for upcoming events, thereby providing a more immersive and informative experience.

Photos associated with recognized events will be marked with a unique “ticket button” instead of the standard information button. Tapping this button will open a dedicated events panel, offering comprehensive details about the event. Moreover, “Memories” within the Collections tab will be automatically titled with the specific name of the concert or sports game attended, personalizing the user’s experience.

This new feature, though not highly anticipated, is designed to enrich users’ memories by providing contextual details, thereby enhancing the overall experience of the Photos app. By integrating these event-related details, Apple aims to make the Photos app more engaging and meaningful to its users.
