DuckDuckGo Adds AI-Generated Image Filter Option

DuckDuckGo Adds AI-Generated Image Filter Option

DuckDuckGo has rolled out a new feature allowing users to hide AI-generated images from their image search results, aligning with its commitment to providing “private, useful, and optional” AI features.

To access this new setting, users can perform a search on DuckDuckGo, navigate to the “Images” tab, and select the drop-down option labeled “AI images: show” or “AI images: hide.” The filter uses manually curated open-source blocklists, including those from uBlockOrigin and uBlacklist, to identify AI-generated content. According to DuckDuckGo, while the filter is not perfect and “won’t catch 100% of AI-generated results,” it is designed to “greatly reduce the number of AI-generated images you see.”

Users also have the option to enable this filter through their general search settings by choosing “Hide AI-Generated Images > Off.” For those seeking a more comprehensive AI-free experience, DuckDuckGo suggests bookmarking noai.duckduckgo.com. This specialized URL automatically enables the image filter, disables AI-assisted summaries, and hides Duck.ai chat icons. The new feature was announced on July 14, 2025, further enhancing user control over AI integration in their online experience.
