Yahoo Japan is set to mandate the use of generative AI for its entire workforce of 11,000 employees, aiming to double productivity by 2028. This move is part of a broader strategy to integrate AI into daily tasks.
The company’s directive requires all staff to adopt and utilize generative AI capabilities and tools to enhance efficiency and optimize operations, freeing employees for “higher-level thinking and communication” by handling foundational tasks.
Initially, Yahoo Japan plans to implement a 30% utilization of generative AI across routine areas such as searching, documentation, and drafting. The company has developed internal AI tools, including SeekAI, which streamlines tasks like managing expense claims and data searches.
Generative AI tools will become standard in key operational areas, including competitive analysis, expense management, meeting documentation, and research, indicating a comprehensive integration across departments. This move reflects a broader industry trend of integrating AI into the workplace.
Industry figures, such as Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and AI SaaS innovator Rupesh Thakkar, have discussed the potential of AI to create new opportunities for the human workforce, despite initial concerns about job displacement. The current advancements in generative AI are expected to empower workplaces, enhancing employee performance and company output.
Yahoo Japan’s commitment underscores the growing belief that generative AI can play a pivotal role in transforming business operations and achieving substantial productivity gains.
