Meta is expanding its smart glasses lineup to include collaborations with Oakley and Prada, building on the success of its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, according to a report by CNBC on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
The move comes after the significant success of the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, launched in late 2023, which have sold two million pairs. EssilorLuxottica CEO Francesco Milleri stated in a February earnings call that the AI smart glasses were “a great success,” with plans to produce 10 million units by the end of next year. Meta and EssilorLuxottica initially partnered in 2019, leading to the release of first-generation Ray-Ban smart glasses in 2021.
The new Oakley Meta smart glasses are designed to target athletes and active customers. These glasses are expected to start at $360, a higher price point than the $299 Ray-Ban Metas, and will feature a more weather-resistant design. Like their Ray-Ban counterparts, the Oakley glasses will enable users to capture photos and videos, make calls, send text messages via voice commands, livestream content, and play music. They will also incorporate AI capabilities, allowing users to ask questions using a “Hey Meta” voice command.
Bloomberg reported in January that the Oakley glasses would feature a centrally located camera, differing from the side-mounted camera on the Ray-Ban Metas. This design choice is intended to facilitate recording for “cyclists and other athletes.” Meta provided a preview of the Oakley partnership on Monday, June 16, 2025, through a new Instagram account for “Oakley | Meta,” which featured a post stating, “The next evolution is coming on June 20.”
The collaboration with Prada will provide Meta with a high-end entry into the fashion market. Prada renewed its eyewear licensing agreement with Luxottica for the next decade in December. Former Meta employees suggest that Prada’s eyewear designs, characterized by thick temples, are well-suited to house the necessary technology for smart glasses. While the Oakley partnership has been teased, Meta has yet to officially announce the Prada deal or provide a release timeline for the Prada smart glasses.
