Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) has concluded, but attention is already shifting towards future hardware developments, with rumors circulating about a significant MacBook Pro redesign slated for 2026.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, the 2026 MacBook Pro is expected to feature notable changes to its processor, display, and chassis. These leaks suggest a substantial overhaul of Apple’s high-performance laptop.
One of the most significant upgrades is anticipated in the processor. The 2026 MacBook Pro is rumored to be equipped with an M7 chip, a considerable leap from the current M4 and the expected M5 chip for this year’s MacBooks. Apple is reportedly developing the M6 and M7 chips concurrently. The M7 will mark the first generation of Apple Silicon to utilize 2nm technology from the Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). The impact of this new technology on the MacBook Pro’s performance remains to be seen pending thorough testing.
The display is also rumored to undergo a significant transformation. The 2026 MacBook Pro is expected to adopt a tandem OLED display, similar to the one currently used in the 2024 iPad Pro. This two-stack OLED display promises enhanced brightness and improved longevity compared to the IPS LCD with mini-LED backlighting found in current MacBook Pro models. The transition to OLED would represent a major upgrade in display technology for the MacBook Pro line.
In addition to the processor and display enhancements, the 2026 MacBook Pro is rumored to be thinner than its predecessors. While specific details regarding the extent of the slimming are scarce, it is speculated that the adoption of the OLED display will contribute to a reduction in the laptop’s overall size.
These rumors follow leaks regarding other Apple products, including a thinner iPhone variant referred to as the iPhone 17 Air.
As of now, Apple has not responded to requests for comment regarding the rumored MacBook Pro 2026 redesign. The information currently available is based on leaks and reports, and further details are anticipated as the development process progresses.
The rumored changes to the 2026 MacBook Pro, including the M7 chip, tandem OLED display, and slimmer design, suggest a significant evolution for Apple’s flagship laptop, potentially offering improved performance, visuals, and portability.
