Sony is set to enter the fighting game controller market with Project Defiant, a new arcade-style fighting stick designed for use with PlayStation 5 and PC.
A key feature of Project Defiant is its wireless connectivity via PlayStation Link technology, which Sony highlights offers “ultra-low latency,” aiming for responsive gameplay. For those who prefer a wired connection, the controller also includes a USB-C port, providing an alternative option.
The device boasts a custom-designed digital stick developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, equipped with buttons that utilize mechanical switches to provide tactile feedback. Additionally, Project Defiant incorporates a touchpad, similar to the one found on the DualSense wireless controller, further enhancing its functionality.
Project Defiant also offers further customization through interchangeable restrictor gates for the stick, with square, circle, and octagon options included. The controller comes with a carrying case designed with a lever gap, intended to protect the digital stick during transport, adding to its durability and convenience.
Sony plans to release Project Defiant in 2026, and the company has stated it will provide more details, including the official name of the device, in the “months ahead.”
