Google has released Android 16 QPR1 beta 1.1, a new update aimed at fixing numerous bugs present in the initial beta version launched last month. The release, confirmed by Google on Reddit, carries the version number BP31.250502.008.A1 and introduces a variety of stability improvements for testers.
The beta 1.1 update addresses several key issues reported by users. A significant fix targets unresponsive navigation buttons encountered in the app drawer or task switcher. This update also resolves a problem where the progress bar on the lock screen media player did not accurately reflect media playback position.
Other notable bug fixes include resolving a crash that occurred when attempting to open wallpaper effects, and another crash in the settings app when accessing the battery menu. Users experiencing issues with the lock screen date being cut off when using a wide clock style should find this corrected, as should those who noticed the search button displaying a different color while scrolling.
The update also restores the missing approve button in Device Admin settings and fixes dark album labels appearing in the photo picker when in dark mode, which previously impacted readability. Another visual bug addressed is the date failing to appear on the homescreen. For devices with multiple users, the beta fixes a fingerprint authentication failure that could occur under specific low-power conditions.
Google stated that the issues with unresponsive navigation buttons were a particular focus for this update, given their critical role in device interaction, particularly for users not utilizing gesture navigation.
The Android 16 QPR1 beta 1.1 is available for a range of Google devices. This includes the Pixel 6 series and newer models (Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro), the Pixel 6a and newer (Pixel 7a, Pixel 8a), the Pixel Fold and subsequent foldable devices, and the Pixel Tablet. Essentially, any Pixel device that was eligible for the first Android 16 QPR1 beta should be able to install this new version.
Alongside these bug fixes, ongoing development for Android 16 QPR1 continues to reveal potential new features. Recent discoveries suggest Google is working on functionality to prevent HDR content from making screens excessively bright and a suggested wallpaper option.
