Samsung has expanded its Sleep Apnea detection feature on Galaxy Watches to 36 new markets, bringing the total to 70. The feature is now available in 34 European countries, Australia, and Singapore.

The expansion into Europe follows the feature receiving the CE label for the European Economic Area, indicating compliance with EU regulations. Additionally, the feature has received regulatory approvals from the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Australia and the Health Sciences Authority in Singapore.

The Sleep Apnea detection feature was initially launched in the USA last year after receiving De Novo certification from the FDA. It has continued to roll out to more regions before this latest global expansion, indicating a gradual but significant increase in its availability worldwide.

Users can access the feature through the Samsung Health Monitor app, which is compatible with the Galaxy Watch 4 series and subsequent models. The feature is designed as an over-the-counter software-only medical application, utilizing the watch’s BioActive Sensor to measure blood oxygen saturation.

The feature is intended to detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults aged 22 and over. It requires monitoring over a two-night period to identify potential breathing disruptions, providing users with valuable insights into their sleep health.

Samsung emphasizes that the feature is not a substitute for professional diagnosis or treatment and is not intended for individuals already diagnosed with sleep apnea. Instead, it serves as a tool to help users identify potential issues and encourages them to seek medical advice if concerning patterns are detected.
