Deezer has announced four new features for its music streaming service, aiming to differentiate itself from competitors like Spotify, which is currently experiencing a major outage.
The new features are set to roll out starting in April and continuing into May. The first feature, “Share With Anyone,” allows users to share music via a universal link that opens in any streaming service, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music. This update addresses the issue of poor translation when it comes to music sharing across different platforms. With this feature, users can share a song from Deezer, and the recipient can listen to it in their preferred streaming service, regardless of whether they subscribe to Deezer or not.
The second feature, “Control the Algorithm,” lets users dislike songs and artists to prevent them from appearing in personalized recommendations. This builds upon the existing “like” feature, allowing users to have more control over their music experience. By marking songs and artists as disliked, users can refine their recommendations and avoid songs they don’t enjoy. This is particularly useful for users who share an account with others, as it helps to prevent recommendations based on someone else’s listening habits.
The third feature, “Personalize Your Layout,” allows users to customize the Favourites tab and add visual elements like photos, shapes, and stickers to playlists. This feature provides users with greater flexibility to personalize their experience and make their music library more engaging. Users can organize their Favourites tab to quickly access their preferred content and add a personal touch to their playlists.
The fourth feature, “My Deezer Month,” provides users with monthly listening statistics, including their most listened to songs, artists, and genres. This feature is similar to Spotify’s Wrapped and Replay features, offering users a breakdown of their listening habits each month. Users can enjoy and utilize these statistics as they see fit, gaining insights into their music preferences.
Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer, said, “At Deezer, we are constantly innovating to offer the most personalized and customizable music experience on the market. The new features we’re introducing today give users more control over their algorithm, greater flexibility to personalize their experience, and easy ways to share content with their friends, even beyond Deezer. We want to keep surprising fans with new and engaging ways to experience music.”
