Asus has introduced the VivoWatch 6 Aero, a groundbreaking fitness tracker that can measure blood pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG) directly from the wrist, marking a significant advancement in wearable technology.

The VivoWatch 6 Aero utilizes wristband sensors to instantly measure blood pressure and ECG, facilitating the detection of atrial fibrillation. Individuals with hypertension or hypotension typically use manual or ambulatory BPM devices to monitor their levels, which are often cumbersome and inconvenient. The capability of a smartwatch to perform these measurements could make regular BPM monitoring more seamless and convenient. This innovation has the potential to revolutionize how people track their health metrics.

The fitness tracker is designed to be lightweight, weighing 27g, and features a one-inch AMOLED display. It performs standard health-tracking functions, including monitoring SpO₂, heart rate, steps, calories, and sleep quality. Furthermore, it boasts 5 ATM water resistance, a battery life of one week, and a built-in GPS sensor, which enhances activity accuracy. These features position the VivoWatch 6 Aero as a comprehensive health and fitness monitoring device.

While the Apple Watch Series 4 and later models have been capable of detecting atrial fibrillation, native blood pressure monitoring capabilities have yet to be integrated into the smartwatch. However, rumors suggest that this feature will be introduced in the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3, expected to be released this September. Other prominent brands, including Samsung, OnePlus, and Huawei, are also reportedly developing convenient BPM functionalities for their wearables, indicating a broader industry trend towards more advanced health monitoring features.

Hypertension affects half of US adults, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and is often underdiagnosed. A smartwatch equipped with BPM capabilities could potentially aid millions in managing and treating the condition. Although Asus has unveiled the VivoWatch 6 Aero, the company has not announced the device’s availability or pricing, leaving consumers awaiting further details.
